LandThink is one of our favorite sources for discussion topics related to land ownership.
Below is a link to a good read from Kent Morris, a registered forester in the State of Georgia, on forestry genetics.
One of the biggest investments a timberland owner makes (after the initial land purchase) is reforestation or, in some cases, initial tree-planting to establish new timber stands.
As Kent explains, it is wise to make sure you understand the basics of genetics when selecting the seedlings that you plant as part of a post-harvest reforestation project or an afforestation of existing fields, etc. Chances are you’ll be living with these trees for many years to come!
